Orthodontics
Today’s orthodontics is almost unrecognisable compared to yesterday’s heavy, bulky metal wires and brackets. At Drummoyne Dental Care, with orthodontics we aim to help children and adults achieve an ideal bite and a straight, healthy and beautiful smile.
Orthopaedics
Orthodontics for children, called orthopaedics, can be as simple as maintaining space for erupting adult teeth, through to more complex treatments featuring expansion appliances, removable plates or partial braces.
We find children are very responsive to early treatment as their bones are still developing, and are easier to guide into their proper alignment.
Pre-treatment with orthopaedics can often reduce treatment time and the severity of problems, avoiding the need to remove healthy adult teeth in the future due to excessive crowding.
Teenage Orthodontics
We can begin orthodontic treatment for adolescents after all the adult teeth have come through, at around age 11 to 13. An individual assessment will help us determine the most appropriate corrective treatment for your child’s needs.
Your treatment options may vary, but most commonly involve fixed braces. Orthodontic treatment takes around 6 to 24 months, during which time we will carefully monitor your child’s progress with regular appointments to adjust and maintain the braces.
Adult Orthodontics
Today many adults are discovering the benefits of orthodontic treatment later in life. Tooth coloured braces and clear aligners are practically invisible, appealing to adults who were reluctant to undergo treatment because of the impact metal braces can have on their social and professional life.
With orthodontic treatment for adults we can correct tooth alignment problems which may extend back to childhood, or that have occurred later in life as a result of missing teeth.
